FAQ's
When and how long are your camp sessions?
At Sports Plus there are no sessions because we feel that parents and campers enjoy creating their own unique schedule. We do although recommend that each camper has a consistent schedule when they attend camp to gain a sense of familiarity with the program staff, and other campers.
Describe a "typical day" at Sports Plus?
One of the great things at Sports Plus is that there are no "typical" days. The type of day is determined by the day and program that your child signs up for. We have a variety of programs to choose from. Our All-American, Sports Training Camps, Drama, and L.A. Adventure are just a few of the major programs we have, PLUS all the choices within these programs. Campers and parents love to have so many options!!!
What is the ratio of campers to counselors?
As recommended by the American Camping Association Sports Plus adheres to a 1 to 7 ratio at camp for the second grade and up. The ratio for the younger campers is 1 to 4 because we believe that our younger campers need that little extra attention and caring for.
Do your counselors have First Aid Training?
YES! YES! YES! All of our Directors and Head counselors have CPR and First Aid Training.
How do you group the campers?
We group the campers based on age with an emphasis on keeping friends together. We aim for 14 campers in a group.
How old are your counselors?
Our Head Counselors range from college students to teachers and coaches with over 25 years of experience in education. The Junior Counselors are in high school. Each group will have "at least" one of each supervising them at camp.
Where do you get your counselors from?
We get almost all of our counselors from Sports Plus. With our high return rate of campers our older campers become junior counselors, and they keep coming back year after year and then finally become head counselors.
Can we change our child's schedule?
Yes you can. Call the office when you are aware of any change and we will move your days around. If your child wakes up sick one day you must call the camp office before 7:30 a.m . to get a make up day.
What do you do on hot days?
The Sports Plus program was created with the heat of the summer in mind. The morning hours are structured with instruction and movement being stressed. The afternoon hours have many choices with "cooler" activities like swimming, arts and crafts, movies, bowling, and skating.
What are the hours of camp?
The main program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We do off FREE extended day care in the morning from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and in the afternoon from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
My child likes sports but is not an All-Star. Will my child still have fun at Sports Plus?
Yes, because Sports Plus makes all campers feel like an All-Star through skill development and structured games where individual success is stressed.
What is the Training Camp Program?
This specialized program is for the campers who want "more" of one sport. The Training Camp programs are 4 days, Monday through Thursday, where the campers will practice and play one the sport they choose for the entire week. Everyone will notice an increase in the camper's knowledge and skill after a Sports Plus Training Camp. |
